Sunday School Classes
Around 9:30 each Sunday morning at the close of the early worship service, please join us for the Open Door Cafe where we share in a time of fellowship and enjoy some snacks or a small meal and some juice, tea, and coffee. Afterwards beginning at either 9:45 or 10:00, we hope you will join us for one of our many Sunday School classes. Below you will find a short description of each class.
Adult Sunday School
- Friendship Bible Class - This is a class with mostly older adults and begins each Sunday with a time of singing a few hymns. The class is led by Susan Holloway and uses the International Bible Series which is scripturally based. This class meets in the Parlor which is between the front entrance and staircase in the Narthex.
- Good Shepherd Class - This class is a multi-generational class and meets in the upstairs study to the left as you get off the elevator. They engage in friendly discussions using DVD-based Christian themes. Galen Butler leads this group.
- Dave Trader Class - This is another multi-generational class led by Mike Ponder with active discussion that uses DVD and non-DVD based educational material with scriptural references and sometimes Bible study. This class also participates in and funds various church and mission projects. They meet in Rooms 210-211 upstairs.
- Coffee and Conversation Group - This is a very informal group that meets in the Fellowship Hall after the Open Door Cafe each Sunday morning. It is led by Jim Jervey or Lori Vasser and is another discussion based class with emphasis on the application of God's word to our everyday lives. Participants are also encouraged to offer topics each week for discussion.
Children's Sunday School (Adult/PreK-5/Youth)
Our Children's Sunday School program consists of 2 classes and a nursery and incorporates children from birth up through the fifth grade. Children under the age of 3 are in the Nursery during the time of Sunday School. Our Sunday School classes are currently divided into 2 age-related groups. This sometimes changes depending upon how many children we have from year to year.
Youth Sunday School (will resume soon)
The youth Sunday School class is for kids in grades 6-12 in middle and high school. High Street UMC has a fun and functional rec-room style area of the Education Wing upstairs, complete with kitchenette, technology for DVDs and gaming, pool table, ping pong table, and Foozball. There is space for classroom activities, spiritual time, and relaxing and fun times. The youth gather at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays.
Youth Group (will resume soon)
Our "Youth Group", or UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) is for kids ages 12 to 18. They meet on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. in the youth room upstairs. At each meeting, a parent provides a meal and stays during the meeting to keep us compliant with Safe Sanctuaries (two non-related adults at all times). Activities at each meeting include anything from mission activities and spiritual time to programs and fun activities such as playing "Gaga", roller skating, bowling and visiting museums.
